Reclaiming Pet from Shelter

If you find your pet is missing, please contact the Habersham County Animal Shelter as soon as possible . You may send a photo of your pet to mnix@habershamga.com.  Animals may also be posted on our Facebook page. Please provide a description of your animal, contact information, and the date and location he/she was last seen.

Come to the shelter and view the animals. This is the best way to see if your missing pet is here. Please note that Habersham County Animal Care & Control (HCACC) holds all stray animals for 5 days. After the 5-day holding period, animals are available for adoption, rescue, or may be humanely euthanized.

Owners wishing to reclaim their animals will need to provide proof of ownership along with proof of current rabies vaccination. If the animal is not current on rabies, a rabies vaccination must be administered by a local veterinarian immediately after the animal is released. The cost of a rabies vaccination is $15.00 and must be paid to Habersham County Animal Care & Control at the time of reclamation. There is a $50.00 reclaim fee per animal for any animals brought into the animal shelter. All fees must be paid at time of release.

Please bring a valid Driver’s License or State-issued ID if reclaiming a pet.

Animals not reclaimed within 5 days will become property of HCACC. After the 5-day holding period, release of animals may require being adopted or boarding fees may apply.  Please note that some owners may not be able to reclaim their animals due to pending court cases.

Residents of the city limits of Baldwin: Please be advised that the City of Baldwin provides animal control services to the citizens within Baldwin city limits. Any animals reclaimed from Baldwin Police Department impounds will be subject to fees through the City of Baldwin, those fees are not applied to any fees necessary to retrieve an animal from the Habersham County Animal Shelter.
