GIS Department
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system capable of capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geographically-referenced information; that is, data identified by a geographic location. The system is used to link digital map data with tabular data from another database and analyze it based on its location. Digital map data consists of a number of map layers such as parcels, subdivisions, street centerlines, contours, streams, city limits, flood zones, and zoning.
The GIS Staff is responsible for the development and maintenance of the county’s digital spatial databases and for providing mapping and data services to local government departments and staff. The public may access the mapping services by clicking on the link to the right.
